How do you know your baby has outgrown their carrier?

Leírás

As your child grows, the point inevitably comes when your current carrier no longer provides the same level of comfort and secure support as before. This is a completely natural process, as a baby’s body proportions, weight, and need for movement are constantly shifting throughout their development.

Key signs it’s time to switch

It is best not to rely solely on manufacturer recommendations, as every child develops at a different pace. Instead, keep an eye out for these specific signs:

Inadequate support: for an ergonomic position, the carrier must support the baby’s thighs from knee to knee. If the fabric no longer reaches the hollow of the knees, the width of the carrier is no longer sufficient.

Reaching the weight limit: every carrying tool has a specific weight limit set by the manufacturer, beyond which use is no longer safe.

Instability of stretchy wraps: Stretchy wraps are typically used safely and comfortably up to a weight of 6 to 9 kilograms. If you feel the wrap pulling, sliding down, or appearing loose despite repeated tightening, the fabric has lost its elasticity and is no longer providing proper support.

Decreased comfort: if you feel pressure, pulling, or tension in your shoulders or lower back while carrying, it is often a sign that the device can no longer optimally distribute the baby's increased weight, or that the settings need adjustment.

What about woven wraps?

In theory, the woven wrap is the only tool that cannot be outgrown, as the tie can be adjusted to the baby's current size every single time. However, it’s important to note that due to the lack of padding, carrying heavier weights can eventually become taxing for the wearer, leading to a decrease in overall comfort.

Babywearing doesn’t end, it just evolves

If babywearing becomes uncomfortable, it doesn't mean you have to stop. It simply means it’s time to choose a tool that fits your baby’s new needs and size. The joy of babywearing doesn’t depend on the size of the baby, but on ensuring that both of you feel safe and comfortable throughout the journey.
